⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. The Dragon Kings are still under attack from all directions and it is difficult to know who they can trust.

Something called to me from the darkness… I should’ve ignored it. Walked away like I have from so many things. But I couldn’t. Not when it whispered my name like it knew me. Then I found her. Hidden. Untouched by time. A mystery I don’t understand—and a temptation I can’t resist. There’s something about her that pulls at me, threads through wounds I thought long buried. I don’t trust it. I don’t trust her. But I can’t stay away. Something is stirring. Something that shouldn’t exist. And the closer I get to her, the more I feel it… waiting. She may be the answer. Or the beginning of the end. Either way—I’m not walking away.

MY THOUGHTS

The whole situation with the mysterious voice talking to Marcus, the collapsed passage, the secret room, the technologically advanced pod, Fedra, and everything had me hooked right from the start. I was super curious about Fedra, where she came from, why she was there, what would happen if she regained her eyesight. Also, the bond between her and Marcus that seemed to compel him to act a bit out of character.

So, the story got off to a slowish start with everyone waiting with bated breath for Fedra to recover so they could start interrogating her. Marcus had a lot of confusing emotions when it came to Fedra. He knew she was probably bad news for the Dragon Kings, but he couldn’t stay away either. As they spent more time together, their attraction grew. They talked a lot and asked pointed questions of each other. I enjoyed their interactions.

A lot of interesting things happened, a new villain was introduced, and Marcus and Fedra reconciled their differences and surrendered to the sizzling bond between them. Despite the heart-warming HEA, I found the ending quite abrupt. I had so many questions left about Fedra, and about her and Marcus. It was somewhat frustrating. I hope that these questions and others I still have from previous books will soon get resolved.

I can recommend this entire series if you like dragon shifters, magic, and steamy romance. This series should definitely be read in order. It is part of Donna Grant’s bigger Dark World and follows the events of the Dark Kings series.
