Here are four quickie reviews of books I’ve read recently.

Hunt on Dark Waters by Katee Robert on Hooked By That Book

Hunt on Dark Waters by Katee Robert

Sail the magical high seas with Bowen the honorable pirate captain and Evelyn the impulsive and sneaky witch in this new sexy fantasy romance series.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a lot of questions about Threshold, and in the beginning this bothered me a lot, but then Evelyn had some of the same doubts, and it made me feel as if some things were set up to be vague and suspect on purpose. I still have some questions left after finishing the book, but they didn’t detract from enjoying the story. Bowen just made me a little bit mad. He could’ve fought harder for his ship and his crew. But things go the way they’re supposed to go. I enjoyed Lizzie’s involvement in the story. Maybe Bowen and Evelyn reached the “I love you” stage a bit fast, but I liked them together. The plot surrounding the Cŵn Annwn and the Council were intriguing and I really want to know what happens next.

Shifter by Rebecca Zanetti on Hooked By That Book

Shifter by Rebecca Zanetti

She’s a wolf-shifting scientist who needs cover… And he’s an alpha without a pack…

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved Erik with his no-nonsense, take-charge attitude. He quickly cut through all the smoke and mirrors the Copper pack threw his way. Luna was a bit harder to pin down. She was superbly confident in some instances and very insecure at other times. I enjoyed their battle of wits and the developing romance between them. The pack’s issues were very cleverly concealed and each piece revealed at just the right time. This is a great series if you like romance with wolf shifters.

The Dragon of Cecil Court by Genevieve Jack on Hooked By That Book

The Dragon of Cecil Court by Genevieve Jack

When Clarissa suddenly loses her magic, she goes to the only person who can help her. But what kind of welcome will Nathaniel give her after she rejected him?

⭐⭐⭐⭐ The plot thickens. Can Nathaniel and Clarissa overcome their personal issues enough to help our three captive heroes in Paragon? I found Nathaniel to be much more aloof than his brothers and sister and I never really warmed up to him as much. All the tension and uncertainty surrounding Paragon, their mother, the prophesy, and everything else overshadowed the romance a bit. It helped that Nathaniel and Clarissa had an existing connection, so this was a second chance for them. This book also had a different slant than the ones before in that Nathaniel wholeheartedly embraced his dragon side and the magic he had and built a community on Earth based on that. All-in-all, I really enjoyed this book, their romance, and I’m excited to find out what happens next.

Everything for You by Chloe Liese on Hooked By That Book

Everything for You by Chloe Liese

Enemies become lovers in this sizzling sports romance about taking a chance on love when life’s taught you it’s a losing game.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gavin and Oliver seem like an odd couple, but they do work together. The age difference didn’t matter at all, except that one man was at the start of his career and the other at the end. This book definitely focused more on Gavin’s fears and the hope he later found for himself. The chemistry between them was just electric. And I loved those Bergman Brothers Summit interventions. They always made me smile. Oliver was so sweet. This is a wonderful series if you like couples and individuals dealing with difficult issues, with plenty of steamy romance. Each book stands well on its own, but you’ll get a better appreciation for the characters if you read it in order.
