⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kat, Daniel, James, and Lady Cynthia are back in the second book of the Kat Holloway Mysteries series.

Kat is still the cook in the Rankin household. Lord Rankin has taken himself off to the countryside, leaving Lady Cynthia in the care of her aunt and uncle. Kat hasn’t heard from Daniel in months, and she is almost ready to write him off, when she finds out he is posing as a pawnbroker. Meanwhile Lady Cynthia has asked Kat to help her friend solve the mystery of who is stealing valuable paintings from their home. And as all sorts of archeological treasures start disappearing as well, a man is murdered, and Kat and Daniel are firmly entrenched in the investigation of it all.

The plot was maybe too convoluted, but there was plenty of excitement. Kat and Daniel are still the same great characters as before. The writing is excellent, especially the interactions between Kat and Daniel. We still don’t get Daniel’s story, but we get some glimpses into it. I also enjoyed the descriptions of Kat’s endeavours in the kitchen.

Was I hooked by this book? Yes, I was very intrigued.
