⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes, it’s a nail-biting tale of murder and betrayal, and it beautifully sets up the start of a new series that I very much look forward to reading.

BLURB

Laurel Snow is super smart and excellent at solving cases for the FBI, but she is not good with people. When her mother calls to ask for her help, she drops everything to return to her hometown. Bodies were dislodged from the snowy mountain during an avalanche and Laurel’s uncle is a prime suspect. The FBI hastily assembles a local office for her, and Laurel gets help from a very reluctant and grumpy Huck Rivers. Huck has his own ghosts haunting him and together they try to navigate family drama, strange witnesses, and their growing attraction to each other.

MY THOUGTHS

The plot and the characters are introduced and expanded in a very timely and well-constructed manner. Laurel and Huck have many layers to them. They work well together, in the literal sense, but also as a couple. Dr. Abigail Caine is an extremely disturbing individual and she made my skin crawl. All the revelations about her and the identity of the murderer were a complete mystery to me until they were revealed. I always enjoy the way in which Rebecca Zanetti slowly exposes all the facts, keeping you at the edge of your seat. This book strongly brings up the question of nature versus nurture and makes you think.

I can definitely recommend it if you like romantic suspense, like me.
