⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Definitely. The gripping suspense and beautiful romance between Laurel and Huck had me well and truly hooked. I couldn’t put it down.
Men are dying in the Pacific Northwest, their bodies found near churches, charities, and counseling centers, each with valentine candy hearts shoved down their throats. They’re good men with families and community ties, or so they seem until Laurel Snow and her team begin to investigate. Then the case takes a shockingly personal turn when the father she’s never met, a former pastor, turns up among the dead. Now, besides solving her father’s murder, Laurel is on the hunt to discover the truth of his past. Complicating things is Laurel’s troubled half-sister, Abigail, a brilliant sociopath determined to prove that they’ve both inherited their father’s malignant narcissism. Assisting Laurel is Washington Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, a dangerous loner whose reliance on gut instinct puts him at odds with Laurel’s coolly analytic approach. But the choice may be moot when the killer hones in on Huck’s own dark secrets, putting him and Laurel squarely in the crosshairs.
MY THOUGHTS
I have loved Laurel and Huck throughout this entire series so far. They are good for each other. Huck is reintegrating into society and coming back to life because of Laurel. Laurel’s relationship with Huck is encouraging her to improve her skills in reading people and interacting with them. His quiet strength and acceptance of all her quirks are exactly what Laurel needs to thrive. They are so strong together, despite some misgivings that Laurel might have. Strong enough to withstand Abigail’s insidious meddling.
Abigail is terrifying. She manages to be subtle and obvious all at the same time. Laurel knows Abigail is guilty, but she just can’t find the proof she needs.
The plot takes us on a thrilling ride and keeps us guessing as to the identity of the killer until the end. Laurel’s logical reasoning and excellent investigative skills, along with Huck’s support and her loyal team, unravel the mystery one nail-biting step at a time. And through the dangers of the investigation, Laurel has to navigate Abigail-infested waters, other family drama, and her own insecurities.
I can highly recommend this series if you like romantic suspense. I think it’s best to read these books in order. That way you will get to know Laurel and Huck better.

I’m not really into romantic suspense, and when I am I want it light on the suspense. But still. This sounds amazing! Great review.
Thanks!
We are review twins today. Great review! I really like the way Huck supports Laurel.
Thanks! And, yes, I agree with you about Huck. I love how he just rolls with everything that comes with her.
I have this series on my kindle, but haven’t read it yet. I do enjoy romantic suspense, so I will have to get it downloaded and start reading as soon as Christmas in July is finished. Great review Rolé.
Thank! I hope you love them just as much as I do.
This looks so good, can’t wait to read it!
Hope you love it.
I’ll have to try this series at some point. I love romantic suspense and I’ve read and enjoyed Zanetti in the past. Anne and Kimberly love the series too.
I read a couple of Zanetti’s series last year and really enjoyed them. I do want to read this one as soon as I can work it into my tbr. This sounds like it was a great installment.
I’m also loving this series and eagerly await the next installment.
I am so glad there’s going to be more.
