⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? No. The premise had a lot to live up to, and plenty happened, but nothing felt especially urgent.

What became of Mitch and Abby McDeere after they exposed the crimes of Memphis law firm Bendini, Lambert & Locke and fled the country? The answer is in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller. It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world. When a mentor in Rome asks him for a favor that will take him far from home, Mitch finds himself at the center of a sinister plot that has worldwide implications – and once again endangers his colleagues, friends, and family. Mitch has become a master at staying one step ahead of his adversaries, but this time there’s nowhere to hide.

MY THOUGHTS

The beginning did a very good job of reminding us of Mitch’s past in Memphis, without having to have read The Firm before. We also get an update on what had happened to everyone involved.

I did appreciate that Mitch and his fellow lawyers stuck to what they did well and didn’t try to be part of any action taking place. Unfortunately, their wheeling and dealing couldn’t exactly be described as thrilling. This book was a good study into the cumbersome bureaucracy of government and large corporations. The most interesting part of the book was Abby’s job.

The writing mostly felt as if I was reading a report. And the ending was about as disappointing as Mitch must’ve felt at that point. I just couldn’t get into it.
