⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. Kai and Isabella made magic together, and I struggled between wanting to savour the story slowly and wanting to read faster so I can know what’s going to happen next.
Kai is fighting for his future as CEO of the company that bears his family name, but he is continually distracted by Isabella. Isabella is under pressure from her family, mostly her eldest brother, to figure out what she wants to do with her life, and there’s a deadline. Their budding relationship must be kept secret or Isabella could lose her job as bartender at the club where Kai is a managing committee member.
MY THOUGHTS
Kai and Isabella kicked things off with longing glances and slow flirting, and their chemistry was undeniable right from the start. They were great together. I loved their interactions and the sizzling attraction. Kai’s mother had other ideas for him than a purple-haired, loud-mouthed bartender, but Kai found that being with Isabella felt natural and exciting and everything that had been missing from his life.
Their relationship was tempered by the fact that they had to keep it a secret for most of the book. So any interactions between them happened in private and they presented a different face to their friends, family, and the public.
Kai came across as this stoic, serious man who always does the right thing. Isabella, with her freer look on life, made him see that there is more to himself. He encouraged her writing efforts and went out of his way to help her out of her writing slump. And in the end, Kai proved that he was willing to fight dirty to get what he wanted, including Isabella.
The author threw out just enough breadcrumbs about Isabella’s life to have me fully intrigued, and all the hubbub surrounding Kai’s upcoming promotion was also well-presented and unfurled at just the right pace.
I can recommend this book and this series if you like romance with private, possessive men and the captivating women that brought down the walls they have built around themselves. This book stands well on its own.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
