⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. How much can a relationship withstand before it becomes irredeemable and what will it take to rescue it?

He had her, he lost her… and he’ll do anything to win her back.

Powerful, brilliant, and ambitious, Dominic Davenport clawed his way up from nothing to become the King of Wall Street. He has everything – a beautiful home, a beautiful wife, and more money than he could spend in a lifetime. But no matter how much he accumulates, he’s never satisfied. In his endless quest for more, he drives away the only person who saw him as enough. It isn’t until she’s gone that he realizes there may be more to life than riches and glory, but by then, it may be too late.

Kind, intelligent, and thoughtful, Alessandra Davenport has played the role of trophy wife for years. She stood by her husband while he built an empire, but now that they’ve reached the top, she realizes he’s no longer the man she fell for. When it becomes clear that she’ll always come second to his work, she finally takes charge of her life and puts herself first, even if it means leaving the only man she’s ever loved. But what she didn’t count on was his refusal to let her go… or for him to fight for their marriage, no matter what it takes.

MY THOUGHTS

What we have here is a woman thoroughly disillusioned by her husband’s mixed-up priorities. But eventually she found the courage to shake things up and shake him out of his stupor. Dom fell into the most obvious relationship trap ever, taking his wife for granted and thinking there will be time later to make up for all the missed opportunities. Only, one missed date turned into ten years of neglect.

Out of all the men in this series so far, including the guys from the Twisted series, I liked Dom the most. I liked him right from the start too and I felt a lot of sympathy for him. He realized his drive and dreams meant nothing on their own. Alessandra was so sweet and she kept being supportive of Dom throughout it all. She just started to also put herself first.

Ana Huang delivers emotional intensity and chemistry in spades. Though it all felt a little more muted in comparison to the previous books, like it matched Dom and Alessandra’s moods. I really felt their pain, Alessandra’s feelings of betrayal, and Dom’s feelings of guilt and confusion.

I enjoyed their up and down journey back to each other. But love alone clearly wasn’t enough to keep them together and, at some point, I found it difficult to understand why Alessandra would give him another chance.

The story is told from both of their points of view, with some glimpses into the past. I can recommend this entire series if you like steamy romance with a high intensity factor. Each book stands well on its own.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
