⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Definitely. Right from the start there was this tone of urgency and danger, creating an atmosphere of heightened emotions that made it impossible to put down.
Bronwyn grew up on Skye, but she lives isolated from the rest of the Druids. She chose to become drough, to rescue her cousin from her ex-boyfriend’s malicious machinations. Her family home is sheltering her until she can confront Sydney and end his reign of terror. Elias came back to Skye after his sister, Elodie, regained her memories and her magic. With their other sister, Edie, the three are trying to find their sibling rhythm again. Elias steps in to protect Bronwyn, with accusations of murder surrounding him.
MY THOUGHTS
Bronwyn sacrificed almost everything to keep her cousin safe and she made some very dubious choices in the process. She refused to ask anybody for help, so none of the other Druids on Skye were aware of her situation. They just knew that she is drough now, and therefore evil, and must be avoided at all costs. Her ex, Sydney, showed up looking for her cousin, and that’s where Elias found her and stepped in to help. After that, he couldn’t stay away and didn’t want to leave her to fend for herself. Bronwyn blurred the lines between what it meant to be mie or drough.
There were several smaller groups of people each conducting their own investigations, but it all just led to more suspicions without any substantial results. And while this was a brilliant story, the issue with Kerry and her Ancients and the deadly mist made no real progress. A few new characters were introduced in short snippets that completely piqued my curiosity, but also only added even more layers to the mystery. If the epilogue is anything to go by, I’m expecting to see them again soon and hope to get more answers.
I loved Bronwyn’s story of her family, her past, and her house. Elias was more like a victim, initially at least, until later when he decided to stop hiding and take action. Every time Balladyn showed up with his stern “I’m in charge” face, I got this little shiver down my spine. He is still my favourite. And despite any misgivings I might have about the plot, there is no denying that Donna Grant is a master at crafting magical battles.
It is best to read the books in the series in order. You might even have to go back a little bit to Dark Alpha’s Command in the Reaper series for more background on Skye. I can recommend this entire Dark World if you like magic and magical creatures, and don’t mind following a story over several books.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Sensuality Rating: Warm
Series: Skye Druids
Other books in the series: Iron Ember
I am behind on these two, but I have to chime in about Balladyn. Adore him! I just listened to Dark Alpha’s Fury, so am going to jump into these Skye books. I am so excited that Balladyn is included. Do the rest of the Reapers start to show up? I’m also just reading Dragon’s Lover and I’m guessing they are not going to be connected much. When I first started with the Dark series I felt a bit behind since I hadn’t read the previous series. I feel like to stay in this world you really need to keep up with all the series. Especially when the Reapers & the Dragons starting intermingling. I hadn’t started the Reapers before I finished the Dark, so some of the overlap had me confused at times. So glad you were hooked on this book, I can’t wait to get to it!
The only Reaper in this book is Balladyn. There’s a dragon king and his mate that showed up, but only briefly, and I have to assume they will play a bigger role some time in the future. This was mostly just Druids. There are more of the other familiar characters in the first Skye book, Iron Ember. And yes, it looks like the newer Dragon Kings series will be more separate.
Great review of this one. I am happy that you enjoyed it like you did! I definitely need to get working on this series.
Thanks!
Great review Rolé! I’m glad that you enjoyed this book.
Thanks!
I listened to Iron Ember and need to continue the series.
