⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Absolutely. Mind Games is an electric thriller underpinned by the power of family and an exquisitely sweet romance.

Twelve-year-old Thea’s world is turned upside down when her parents are murdered while she and her brother visit with their grandmother. Thea “saw” it take place in a dream and thanks to her vision, the killer will spend the rest of his life in prison. Over time, Thea will make friends, build a career, find love. But that ability to see into minds and souls still lurks within her, and though Grammie calls it a gift, it feels more like a curse, because the inmate who shattered her childhood has the same ability. Thea can hear his twisted thoughts and witness his evil acts from miles away. He knows it, and hungers for vengeance. A long, silent battle will be waged between them, and eventually bring them face to face, and head to head.

MY THOUGHTS

I’ve probably said this before, but Nora Roberts has this uncanny ability to weave a clever and very detailed story so that you feel completely immersed in it, with a pace that is never too slow or tedious. Every word and event have a place and a meaning.

Just like Thea, I squealed quietly inside when she met Ty and they got to know each other. Their relationship developed gradually, but they had a palpable and real connection right from the start. Every character had so much dimension and heart. I loved all of them.

This story took us on a wild ride of harrowing experiences and a wide range of emotions. I felt wrung out by the end, but with a goofy smile on my face. The “Mind Games” element to it was truly well done, providing most of the nail-biting suspense.
