⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. I love a good, complicated heist and I enjoyed every one of these hairbrained schemes.

Audrey Callahan left behind her life in the Edge, and she’s determined to stay on the straight and narrow. But when her brother gets into hot water, the former thief takes on one last heist and finds herself matching wits with a jack of all trades. Kaldar Mar – a gambler, lawyer, thief, and spy – expects his latest assignment tracking down a stolen item to be a piece of cake, until Audrey shows up. But when the item falls into the hands of a lethal criminal, Kaldar realizes that in order to finish the job, he’s going to need Audrey’s help.

MY THOUGHTS

Audrey and Kaldar were both just trying to survive, until they teamed up and learned that there was more to life than they ever thought. They were both adrenaline junkies and not afraid to tackle the very dangerous situations they found themselves in. The fear came later when they realized they had something to lose. I loved these two together. They were fun and interesting. Audrey went from keeping Kaldar at arm’s length to “all in, this is forever love” a bit suddenly. But these two fit together perfectly, without a doubt.

George and Jack were some of the best parts of this story. They had to grow up pretty quickly to survive everything thrown their way, but they rose to the occasion spectacularly. These boys were well-developed (right from book one) and had beautiful development arcs.

The action flowed fast through the complicated plans this mishmash of a team concocted, even though it felt like it took a long time to get to the grand finale. I can highly recommend this entire series if you like a steamy urban fantasy romance. You can probably read this book on its own, but I think there’s more value in reading the books in the series in order.

My library only had an audio copy and not a physical one, and I absolutely loved listening to the narrator with her accent and the way she made these characters come to life.

I am reading this series as part of a read-along hosted by Anne at Books of My Heart.
