Mirrors that can magically transport people to a different place form the basis for a very intriguing plot. The place on the other side seems to exist in parallel to the regular world.
Hayden grew up with her grandmother and great-grandmother since her parents had disappeared shortly after her birth. She led a happy life and if she occasionally saw more than her own reflection in a mirror, she didn’t pay it too much attention. Until she unexpectedly found herself in the world on the other side of the mirror. She also found her father and her brother there.
Axel, her brother, was wonderful. He found her first once she went through the mirror and did everything he could to make her feel welcome with her new-discovered family. Hayden adapted pretty quickly and made herself at home with her cat, who had traveled with her.
In general, it’s an interesting story with some interesting characters. The writing provided more of a tell style than a show style. There are a lot of characters and a lot of things going on. Plenty of inter-personal plots were revealed, but none delved very deeply into motivations. There was the main plot, which ended up being cool, but also a bit strange, and then the sub-plots playing out between the characters. I feel that, apart from Hayden, the story didn’t offer another character that the reader could focus on to bring everything together.
After all of that, it is an intriguing concept and I would like to read more.
