⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Somewhat. A contentious work relationship turns into a fake engagement and ends with a real happy every after.
Courtney is on her way to interview for an interior design job that will help her pay her way through law school. On the way she has a run-in with an obnoxious man, only to find herself sitting across from him for the interview. Bryan needs someone to plan a work event in his stead and he has decided that Courtney is the perfect woman for the job. It’s not the job Courtney was even there to interview for, but she couldn’t say no to the big salary Bryan offers to be his assistant.
MY THOUGTHS
I liked the book overall, but there were a few instances where it felt like things just came out of the blue, with no introduction or a bit of historical background to explain it. For example, Bryan and his grandfather seem to have a difficult relationship, but there is no indication as to why, or where Bryan’s animosity comes from.
Courtney and Bryan went all out with their fake engagement and had a lot of fun in the process. I enjoyed their interactions, but I wasn’t that heavily invested in their relationship. Courtney stood up for herself without compunction. Bryan was the one who changed the most in the end.
The ending was very sweet and happy and full of hope. I had a fine time with his book, but I have some questions and misgivings. It’s a bit difficult to go into them all without giving anything away. See what other readers are saying on Goodreads.
