⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. A rigid guardian and his cheerful ward clash in this charming historical romance.

Titus Noble, the Earl of Gilbourne, lives his life with every single second planned and accounted for. And there is no room for thoughts or marriage or romance. There is most definitely no room for an unexpected ward. Matilda Dodd is counting the days until her 21st birthday, when she can be free to make her own choices. She did not count on a surly, fascinating guardian.

MY THOUGHTS

I had a lot of fun with this story. There were playful moments and bleak moments. This book took me from chuckling out loud to wanting to cry, with some anger sprinkled in for good measure. Needless to say, I felt all the feels.

Matilda and Titus had a wholly unexpected first meeting. It set the tone for the rest of their interactions, after they discovered their respective roles. Titus did not want to want Matilda, but Matilda definitely wanted him, and this led to interesting and fun encounters. Since they were never sure how they were going to react to each other, the reader wasn’t sure what to expect either. I enjoyed seeing the two of them learn each other’s secrets and deepest desires.

I can recommend this book if you like historical romance. It’s part of the Lords in Love series, a collaboration between Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke, but it stands well on its own.

Thank you to the author/publisher for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
