⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Without a doubt. Heart-stopping magic and action had me glued to the pages with glee.
When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender–but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members–three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages–asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no. They wanted to wrap me up in a pretty ribbon and plunk me in the crosshairs of a murderous rogue to lure him out of hiding. So that’s what we did. And that’s why I’m here. About to be kidnapped. Oh, and our grand plan for safely capturing said murderous rogue? Yeah, that completely fell apart about two minutes ago. Why did I agree to this again?
MY THOUGHTS
This gets five stars purely for the entertainment factor. Aaron, Kai, and Ezra just keep getting better and better. They bring a kind of nonchalance with their menace that was highly delightful.
You know the saying about sugar and spice and all things nice… Well, Tori is made of bravado and sarcasm and a very big heart. And she was still all “jumping into danger first, asking questions later”.
We met a whole host of new magical characters, expanding this world in interesting ways. The action was fast-paced and thrilling and the magic use was electric and deliciously terrifying. I had a silly smile on my face most of the time.
I can highly recommend this series if you like urban fantasy where humans interact with a diverse magical world. I’d say it’s better to read the books in order to get to know the characters.
I am reading this series as part of this read-along hosted by Anne at Books Of My Heart.

I’m taking part in this challenge too, but I’m behind. I’ve been away for all the chats but I hope to attend this next one. We’ll see since I’ll be on my way home from Southern California.
I’ve missed all the chats too.
