⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. Zander had been drifting through life, physically and mentally, until he found a home and an anchor in Romy and her family.
Zander Shaw is country music’s hottest star. So, when he singled me out of a packed arena and had me pulled backstage, I should’ve known I wasn’t his forever. One signed NDA later, I was sneaking onto his tour bus, wrapped up in his world, and him. But it ended before it really started when he ghosted me. Then he shows up on my family’s ranch to film his new music video, a surprise to us both. Now I’m his appointed tour guide around the ranch, stuck sharing all my favorite places with the man who carelessly discarded me. The more time we spend together, the harder it is to guard my heart because his flirty half-smile makes me forget my anger. But Zander’s made it clear, he’s not looking to ride out into the sunset with anyone. Which would be fine… if I wasn’t carrying his baby.
MY THOUGHTS
An enormous amount of trust would have to go into a relationship like this. I can’t even imagine the amount of chill you’d also need to not lose your mind. Romy and Zander each had their own demons to wrestle to get them to that level of trust. Despite the frequent mentions of the media frenzy permeating Zander’s life, the emphasis was primarily on his past and the way he saw himself because of that, and his fears when it came to including Romy in that life.
Zander had this single-minded focus on Romy and their baby that was endearing, but also somewhat restrictive. He wanted to put his relationship with her and the baby in a bubble far removed from the outside world. Romy’s relaxed way of looking at life was exactly what he needed to balance his neurotic tendencies. She did not let herself just be absorbed into his world, she forced him to make an appropriate space for them instead. They had good chemistry, but I would say that was a pleasant aside compared to everything else going on.
I loved Romy’s family and their closeness and fun banter. It would be worth reading the other books in this series to get to know the other characters, though it’s not necessary.
This was an emotional, intense journey through their up and down relationship. I can definitely recommend this book if that’s what you enjoy in a steamy romance.
