⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Absolutely. This was a wild ride from start to finish. My heart was in my throat the entire time.
Alex is now the brand-new Deputy Director in charge of Paranormal Relations at the PTF, but her co-director isn’t very welcoming or supportive at all. An inspection by delegates from the Unified Church can potentially overturn everything that Alex has worked so hard for. The werewolves are having a hard time forming a cohesive team. And when Alex is given an off-the-books assignment to stop another possible war with the fae, tensions at the PTF run even higher.
MY THOUGHTS
At the end of the previous book, Of Mettle and Magic, Alex had made all kinds of deals and promises to all kinds of people to prevent a full-scale war and now she has to deal with the awkward aftermath. Her position at the PTF is hanging on by a thread. Alex may have grown more in power, but she still lacks the necessary cutthroat skills to navigate the political waters between all the species. Although this seems to be an advantage in some situations. But above all, Alex knows how to adapt quickly.
It didn’t take long for something to go wrong and then it was non-stop action with some respites for both the reader and the heroes. The big battle was absolutely breathtaking. One thing I’ve always loved about this series is how detailed the fae worlds are described, making them seem very real. The connections between Alex and James, and Alex and her friends, are growing ever stronger and I loved how they worked together and supported each other.
I can highly recommend this series if you like action-packed fantasy. The romance between Alex and James is subtle and continually growing. It is definitely best to read the books in order.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
