⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Was I hooked by that book? Yes. Tilda’s simple case of theft turns deadly in this gripping murder mystery.
When private investigator Matilda Wren is hired to investigate a household theft, she expects a routine inquiry, until the murder of a retired police inspector draws her into a far more personal mystery. The victim was found clutching a slip of paper bearing the name of Tilda’s late father. As Tilda begins to unravel the connection, she finds herself confronting the very crime that first set her on the path to her father’s murder. Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst, possesses the ability to glimpse memories through touch, which has proven most helpful as he’s worked alongside Tilda on several cases. However, his power has vanished just when they need it most. Hadrian is desperate to regain his gift to aid Tilda in her quest to discover the truth before it’s too late. With powerful forces moving to keep the secrets of the past buried, Tilda must face a growing conspiracy with far-reaching roots. The closer she edges to the truth, the more dangerous her investigation becomes. And this time, the cost may be her own life.
MY THOUGHTS
As the story got underway, there were a few different intriguing things happening that had my full attention. Hadrian and Tilda got pulled deeper into a sinister conspiracy that kept throwing dead bodies their way. Investigating her father’s murder, and dealing with her mother, made Tilda rethink a lot of her own set-in-stone opinions. Hadrian was getting better at focusing his ability, after a minor hiccup.
Tilda and Hadrian adopted a very “make it look like you belong there” attitude that was awesome and amusing. I loved their mutual enthusiasm for their work and how they presented themselves as a unit. There was no question that they were working together, even though people frowned at Hadrian’s involvement (him being an earl and all that). Their growing attraction added an extra exciting element for me and I silently squealed a few times.
These two make a crack detective team and I hope to see more of them. I can highly recommend this series if you like a super slow burn historical romance with some paranormal elements.

Yes, this is really lovely. And so far it is way more focused on their investigations. The romance is more hinted at. This latest book has a bit more romance in it.
