Quickie Reviews are what it says, a short one paragraph review for those books that didn’t get a full page review.

The Inheritance by Ilona Andrews
We are at war. The interdimensional invasion brought us unimaginable suffering, but it also awoke talents slumbering deep within us, a means to repel and destroy our enemy. Adaline is a Talent. She had gone into the dimensional gates hundreds of times. She was always well protected. This time everything goes wrong. Now Ada is trapped in the labyrinth of alien caves unlike any other.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was phenomenal. The world building was thorough, detailed, and super interesting with lots of action. Ada’s exploration of the breach area served to add rich layers to this world and to explain how it all worked. There is clearly more to come and I cannot wait to find out.

Don’t You Forget About Me by Shana Galen
When Marjorie regains consciousness in a cold, sea-drenched cave with no memory of who she is or how she got there, panic sets in. The last thing Simon Burrows expected was for Marjorie to go missing. When he finds her wet and shivering on the beach at dawn, she remembers absolutely nothing—not who she is, not who he is, and, most importantly, not the vital information only she possesses.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was a quick, fun, light read that I enjoyed quite a lot. At the start, we (the reader) were just as confused as Marjorie at the situation she found herself in. The secrets unfolded beautifully and I loved how Marjorie got a second chance at, well, everything.

The Pretend Fiancé Fiasco by Pippa Grant
An action-packed romcom featuring the reclusive final member of the boy band Bro Code, a recovering good girl with too many men interested in her for all the wrong reasons, a treasure hunt, a fake engagement, and the best surprise to hit the Copper Valley universe since the Fireballs’ new mascot was revealed.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I didn’t read any of the previous books in the series, and while it’s not necessary, I did feel like I missed out on a lot of history with all these characters. A treasure hunt is always exciting and this one was quite convoluted. There was a lot of silliness, which I quite appreciate usually, but there was a moment where it felt like the shenanigans were filler to give Sloane and Davis more time together, as the treasure hunt wasn’t going anywhere at that point. And these two needed a lot of time to sort through their respective baggage. Ultimately, it was a fun read and I loved the ending.

Brooklyn 99 meets The Charm Offensive in this sparkling romantic murder it’s murder cute in the first degree when a detective finds himself falling for the lead suspect in a career-making case.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Modern technology, social media, and deep fakes were cleverly incorporated into this twisty and exciting murder mystery. The story is told in the third person, but all from Rav’s viewpoint. I really liked Rav. He was an interesting character and he did a good job managing his complex feelings for Jack with his own role in the investigation. Jack had so much baggage and he was a difficult nut to crack. But Rav’s quiet support and love brought him out of his own head. I had some lingering questions regarding the crime and investigation, but overall, I really enjoyed this story and the author’s writing style.
