Quickie Reviews are what it says, a short one paragraph review for those books that didn’t get a full page review.
Habeas Corpus by Rebecca Zanetti
Anna is forced to juggle her meddling family, solve a string of murders, save Nick, and arrive at Valentine’s Day dinner in one piece. Hey, miracles can happen.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Did I finish this in one day? Yes, yes, I absolutely did. I suppose it is a bit unbelievable that so many misfortunes can befall one woman, but I love how Aiden and Anna’s family keep teasing her about her penchant for trouble. And trouble does seem to love Anna. Habeas Corpus was a fun, exciting read with plenty of humorous moments and I especially loved when the entire family came together. This is a great series if you like swoony heroes, confident FMCs, solving crimes, and creative lawyering.

Series: The Anna Albertini Files
A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ The parts I liked the most were the flashbacks to the night they met, their undeniable chemistry, and how adorable and sweet they were together. Both characters had plenty of ghosts from their pasts that influenced their present situations. While their attraction was super hot, their relationship wasn’t the greatest for me. I wasn’t quite convinced at the end that they were strong enough to overcome their obstacles and make this a permanent thing. But overall, I enjoyed it and I like the author’s writing style.

The Missing Witness by Allison Brennan
When a key witness goes missing, Quinn and Costa must find her before a killer silences her for good.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book brought everything to a head for Kara and her future at the LAPD. Kara’s sharp observations and detecting skills came to good use to help her figure everything out. Matt was there more in a supporting role, professionally and personally, but I loved him for never pushing Kara for more than she was willing to give. The story took some interesting twists and turns to reach a highly satisfactory ending. I can recommend this series if you like crime-solving mysteries with plenty of procedural steps. It’s best to read them in order to stay on track with Kara’s developing story.

Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura
Rival archaeologists must team up on a secret Aztec expedition, or it could leave their careers, and hearts, in ruins.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ford was a bit annoying at times and their initial animosity towards each other was somewhat flimsy, but I had a lot of fun with this book. The chemistry between Ford and Corrie was intense and I enjoyed their inner dialogue surrounding this. The mysterious investor and action towards the end were a bit cliché and predictable, but it was still highly entertaining. I enjoyed the ending when Ford thoroughly redeemed himself.

I LOVED The Missing Witness.
I’m glad I read your review for Blitz because I was hesitant to read it for some reason and now I am even more so. Are there a ton of flashbacks? Like every other chapter type of story?
The flashbacks happen sort of sporadically and only until about halfway (if I remember correctly). It’s only about the first night they met. It happens in little bits (like at the start of a chapter) and the flashback ties in with what is happening in the present time.
Hm…. I don’t know. I might still pass based on your other comments. Thanks for letting me know!
Glad I could help. It’s good to know these things before committing your time to a book.
I’ve read some good things about Jo Segura’s books, but I haven’t picked them up yet. I don’t normally read suspense, but Habeas Corpus sounds good.
I love that whole Anna Albertini series, the novellas included. They are a lot of fun.
Kara can get on my nerves a bit, but I enjoyed The Missing Witness, too. Raiders of the Lost Heart was a bit of a disappointment. Too much focus on sex when I wanted more adventure.
I know what you mean about Kara, she can be super frustrating.
Love the cover on the first one, and I’ve enjoyed Devney Perry books in the past, I need to read more. The last book was a DNF for me, but I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing your reviews!

I like the sound of the Missing Witness, Rolé. I have enjoyed other Quinn and Costa books, so I’m sure this one will be another enjoyable read.
This one was my favorite so far.
