Quickie Reviews are what it says, a short one paragraph review for those books that didn’t get a full page review.

Make It Out Alive by Allison Brennan on Hooked By That Book

Make It Out Alive by Allison Brennan

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that thrusts Quinn and Costa into the crosshairs of a sadistic serial killer.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I especially loved Matt and Kara and how open they were about their relationship and their love for each other. Kara had definitely made a lot of personal progress in that regard. The plot flowed fairly fast for the most part and the tension was high all the time. After Matt and Kara disappeared, there were a lot of separate events happening that all converged at the point when they were rescued. It was super interesting to see the investigation from all those different viewpoints, including the killers’ actions and everything that Matt and Kara experienced. I can highly recommend this series if you like murder investigations, thrillers, complex characters, and some romance. It’s not strictly necessary to read the books in order, but I think there will be more value and enjoyment in moving with the character development.

And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison on Hooked By That Book

And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison

Two competing meteorologists are forced to find common ground in this opposites attract, When Harry Met Sally inspired romance.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ The one-bed, workplace romance, sunshine/grumpy trope got the full treatment and it was sweet and heart-warming. Jackson was such a nerd and I loved it. He had this crazy attraction to Delilah that stood in contrast to his meticulous personality. Their careful overtures were so cute. Delilah’s boss can just go throw himself off a cliff. I was so happy that things worked out for her. The bits between the chapters were hilarious and this book was a lot of fun.

The Diamond Puck-Up by Lauren Landish on Hooked By That Book

The Diamond Puck-Up by Lauren Landish

A brooding hockey enforcer and a spirited jewelry designer find love—and trouble—when a stolen ring brings them together in this steamy romance.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Um, a hockey player and his best friend’s sister get in trouble with the mob? That was definitely unexpected. Griffin properly embodied the “grumpy” half of this duo, while Penny blithely tore down his walls with her positive spin on everything. I loved Penny’s jewelry-making job and how that led to the misunderstanding with some very dangerous people. The mob boss was a fun addition to the story. Griffin had a lot of hang-ups to overcome, but Penny showed him the way. This was a fun, steamy read.

Dying to Meet You by Sarina Bowen on Hooked By That Book

Dying to Meet You by Sarina Bowen

A twisty thriller that probes how well we actually know the men in our lives.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was an interesting and suspenseful thriller. There was a lot of mystery surrounding Tim, Rowan’s ex, and the mansion she was working on that had me guessing until the end. The plot was fascinating and it unfolded at a good pace and in pieces that gave just enough information to keep me engrossed. The characters were all struggling in some way, displaying their flaws, and trying to come to terms with their changing circumstances. There was a romance, but it was not central to the main plot. Still, it developed at the right time and left me feeling happy for them at the end.
