Here are four quickie reviews of books I’ve read recently.

There Should've Been Eight by Nalini Singh on Hooked By That Book

There Should’ve Been Eight by Nalini Singh

In this chilling thriller from bestselling author Nalini Singh, a remote estate in New Zealand’s Southern Alps hosts a reunion no one will ever forget.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have mixed feelings about this book. The best parts were definitely the compelling writing and the plot added new elements at just the right places to keep the anxiety and suspense high. I had my suspicions about what was going on, but that did not in any way detract from the reveal. But it was all just a bit too crazy at the end. I didn’t like Luna. There wasn’t anything specific, but her personality and her way of telling the story had me on the edge, and not in a fun I’m-excited-about-this way. I’m also not convinced that her eye issues added anything to the story. For me, it would all have been the same without that aspect. I’m still giving it 4 stars, because I was invested in the story and I couldn’t put it down, even though I must’ve had a horrified expression on my face for most of the time.

Flash of Fear by Asa Maria Bradley on Hooked By That Book

Flash of Fear by Asa Maria Bradley

Forensic artist Molly Nyland survived a freak lightning strike as a child that marked her skin with Lichtenberg figures and gave her the ability to tell when what people describe doesn’t match what they actually witnessed. Assigned to a brutal murder case, she is shocked to discover that her new partner is Desmond Rankin, the detective she briefly hooked up with five years ago. As Molly and Des struggle to keep their secrets, more bodies are discovered and it’s clear that the town is dealing with its first serial killer. To find the perpetrator before another life is lost, Molly must stretch the limits of her powers, not only to save her town, but to actually stay alive.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I received this book as a freebie through another author’s newsletter and I thought why not give it a try, the premise seemed interesting. And it was. I had no problem following the plot and the world building. We, as the readers, discovered this paranormal world along with Molly and Des. There were a few questions left at the end, but I just assumed that this might get addressed later on if this series continued. I liked Molly and Des, Des was just a bit unreasonably possessive at times, and I would love to read more of them.

Manhattan Dragon by Genevieve Jack on Hooked By That Book

Manhattan Dragon by Genevieve Jack

Rowan and Nick’s paths keep crossing when Nick starts investigating a suspicious death.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ The chemistry between Rowan and Nick was off the charts right from the start. They had a lot of ups and downs and Nick found it difficult to trust her completely. I liked the two of them together. The plot was fast-moving and had me continuously wondering what’s going to happen next. Gabriel, Raven, Tobias, and Sabrina joined in the fray and I loved how the siblings are finding each other again.

Their Marchioness by Jess Michaels on Hooked By That Book

Their Marchioness by Jess Michaels

After nearly a decade of marriage, the Marquess and Marchioness of Egerton are going strong. As her birthday approaches and they head to a secluded retreat for a week of pleasure, he has a very special gift in mind – her first love, Peter Reid. Can the three of them take a week of intense passion and allow it to become a lifetime of love?

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not your typical historical romance, this one is scorching hot. Apart from the super sexy scenes, I feel like the author also thoroughly explored the characters’ feelings for each other. I love how it all unfolded between them.
