This is the kind of story that you can can’t put down once you’ve started it. The kind you will sacrifice your sleep for, if it comes to that, leaving you like a zombie. And in your zombie-like state the story stays with you. You can’t help but think about it, sometimes with a frown, sometimes with a smile. And thoughts about one part of the story lead you to thoughts of another part, and so on, until you realize you spent most of your morning on the story as well, even though the active reading part has ended a while ago.
This story addresses so many social issues and the one constant in it all is Tess and her moral compass. Because no matter what happens, you have a very good idea of how Tess will react, and that is very comforting.
I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books, and this one blew me away as well.
Was I hooked by this book? Oh yes, without a doubt.
